Witnessing is like the OG practice that ancient saints used to swear by. It’s not your everyday art; it’s a masterclass, my friends. While on the surface, it might seem like observing everything around you, in reality, it’s a bit like turning the spotlight inward. Imagine you’re in a meeting or whipping up some culinary magic at home – you’ve got to be on your A-game, tuning into all those emotions and thoughts cooking up inside you.
I know, it sounds a bit out there, but trust me, it’s a game-changer. Master this art, and no situation can mess with your vibe. You become the zen master of your own universe.
Now, let’s talk perks. What’s the universal wishlist? Happiness and peace, right? Well, witnessing is like the superhero cape for those vibes. No situation can crash your happiness and peace party. (P.S. I’m not saying you won’t get a little shook – we’re human, after all – but your happy place won’t budge.)
Next up, when you start watching those thoughts of yours, you’ll hit a thoughtlessness stage. It’s like finding Nemo, but in your mind. Okay, maybe not the entire ocean, but you’ll catch a glimpse, at least.
And guess what? There’s a spiritual bonus round! It’s like leveling up on the path to Nirvana or Moksha – all happening on the down-low.
Exciting, right? Now, how do you actually do it? Let’s get practical.
Start by setting a time frame for witnessing your own emotions or thoughts, say two hours. Every two hours, pause for a minute to observe your thoughts and emotions—whether they’re rooted in the past or the future and the emotions they trigger, like anger, jealousy, or greed. Set an alarm, maybe a classy one, on your phone or watch. Keep it groovy. Gradually shrink that time frame down to a half-hour. Practice each slot for at least 15 days, then shave off 15 minutes. Slow and steady wins the race.
Starting point? Totally up to you. Two hours is my suggestion – that’s 6 minutes of self-awareness a day (between 7 AM and 7 PM). You got this!
Sure, it’s a slow jam, but remember: good things take time. Pro tip – make it a daily groove, and in around 45 days, you’ll start catching those sweet benefits and maybe even a sneak peek of the thoughtlessness stage.
